Cancer Screening Guidelines
The following guidelines are for people who have an average risk for cancer
and without any specific symptoms.
Anal cancer (anal Pap smear)
Who should be screened?
- There is no consensus on anal cancer screening. All men and women who engage in receptive anal sex should talk to their doctor about whether they should be screened, and if so, how often.

Prostate cancer (PSA test and Digital Rectal Exam)
Who should be screened?
- Everyone with a prostate gland (men and transgender women)
What age does screening begin?
- Talk to your doctor about early detection options
- Tests may be offered after age 50
- For African American men and transgender women, tests may be offered after age 45
- For men and transgender women with a first degree relative with prostate cancer, tests may be offered beginning at age 40

Breast cancer (mammogram)

- All women
- Transgender women with breast tissue

How often should people be screened?
Cervical cancer (pap smear)
Who should be screened?
- All women
- Everyone with a cervix
What age does screening begin?
- Within 3 years after first intercourse or by 21 years old
How often should people be screened?
- Every year until age 30
- Then, every 2-3 years, after having three negative pap tests in a row
- Screening can be stopped at age 70 if there have been no abnormal Pap test results in the last 10 years
